ONTARIO, Calif. (AP) — Investigators say a California mother facing eviction used a hammer to bludgeon her 11-year-old son to death before she committed suicide by slashing her throat.

San Bernardino County coroner's officials say the bodies of Eddie Lopez and his 41-year-old mother Libia Lopez were found Friday inside an Ontario shed they called home. The boy was beaten with a hammer and the woman cut her throat after failing to overdose on anti-depressants.

Ontario police Sgt. David McBride tells the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin that a motive hasn't been determined, but he noted the woman and her son were facing eviction.

Police were dispatched to the shed at 7:52 p.m. Friday after receiving a neighbor reported seeing a dead woman.
