Pedestrian killed in French Valley crash

A pedestrian was struck and killed during a crash in French Valley on Monday evening, according to police.

It happened at around 9:20 p.m. as the 31-year-old man walked along northbound lanes of Winchester Road, also known as SR-79, near Skyview Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Investigators say that the victim was walking in the No. 1 lane when the driver of a 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 approached.

"The driver was unable to see the pedestrian walking in the lane," CHP Officer Mike Lassig said in a statement. "The Mercedes' front end collided into the pedestrian."

The driver pulled over and called 911 to report the crash. Paramedics declared the victim dead upon arrival.

Police say that though the driver suffered minor injuries in the crash, they did not require hospitalization and were treated by paramedics at the scene.

They do not believe drugs or alcohol are factors in the crash and no arrests were made.

Anyone who knows more is asked to contact CHP's Temecula office at (951) 466-4300.
