Josh Rubenstein's Weather Forecast (April 20)

STUDIO CITY (CBS) — The high pressure that has been building all week will peak this afternoon.

Daytime highs will reach into the 90s in inland areas. The forecast at the beach and in the coastal plain, which includes downtown, is a little trickier.

There is a coastal eddy that has brought in low clouds. It's a shallow, dense marine inversion and it kept temperatures cooler than anticipated downtown.

While the marine layer will be pushed back to the beach by an off-shore flow, that marine influence will moderate the temperatures in the basin. Downtown is only expected to reach 81 degrees today, while valley cities will hit closer to 95.

The on-shore flow returns Sunday and we begin a gradual cooling trend into next week. We are still watching a cut-off low that is expected to move through the area with a slight chance for some precipitation by the latter half of the work week.

Beaches -upper 60s to low 70s
Basin - upper 70s to low 80s
Valleys - mid 90s
Deserts -low 90s
Mountains - low 70s
