Two California Highway Patrol officers were involved in a shooting with multiple suspects during a traffic stop in Compton after a suspect tried to ram into their patrol vehicle.

The incident started during a traffic stop around 11:20 p.m. on Monday when officers saw a white Kia Optima speeding east on Alondra Boulevard near Main Street.

CHP pulled the Kia over near Alondra Boulevard and Maple Avenue when the car allegedly drove toward officers, attempting to hit them.

"While the suspect was accelerating the Kia towards the officers, one of the officers fell on his back, causing (an) officer-involved shooting," CHP said. "Both officers fired their weapons multiple times at the Kia, and then the Kia fled eastbound on Alondra Boulevard from Maple Avenue."

The suspects drove away from the scene and a white Kia Optima was found on Cypress Avenue, west of Aprilla with several bullet holes in its windshield.

The officers returned to their patrol car and a short pursuit ensued before the suspect ditched their vehicle around Alondra and Wilmington Avenue, according to authorities.

The suspect is described as a man in his 20s and is still on the loose. No officers were injured.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.
