Travelzoo Deal Review: Thanksgiving In The City
For some people the holidays symbolize family, love and togetherness. For me, this time of year is something I simply try to survive. I typically spend my Thanksgiving in some place I wouldn't usually spend more than five minutes except for the fact that a distant relative lives there. Not to mention the sitting in freeway traffic or fighting for overhead baggage space on a plane, train or some other mode of transporting large amounts of people to places they really don't want to go. So this year when my family decided to spend Thanksgiving in San Francisco, I thought "Now that's a grand idea." I couldn't wait to spend another weekend in my favorite city and take in some of the holiday grandeur.

First, I was tasked with finding a hotel suitable for my fickle family. I wanted something close enough to Union Square (also known as ground zero for the city's holiday hoopla) but far enough to escape the hordes of tourists trying to catch the infamous Christmas tree lighting. The Omni Hotel located in the Financial District was just what the doctor ordered – the perfect location, a top-notch restaurant offering a Thanksgiving dinner and a new experience for this experienced bay area hotel hopper.

Upon check-in, I took an inventory of the ornate décor covering every inch of the lobby. From Italian marble to Austrian crystal chandeliers, I felt like I was getting a key to my own palace. And the room definitely did not disappoint. I first noticed the bed with its cloud-like appearance and inviting sheets (which definitely felt even better than they looked). My eyes then went to the window that was adorned with rich fabrics and overlooked a small town square decorated for the holiday season. This would be my sanctuary if any of my relatives started to resemble their holiday doppelganger.

Getting ready for Thanksgiving dinner was an experience in and of itself. The bathroom offered all the modern amenities you'd come to expect from a luxury hotel but also a few creature comforts that were a pleasant surprise. It was also comforting to know that my dining destination was a mere elevator ride away. The Omni Hotel's in-house restaurant Bob's Steak & Chop House has carved out a reputation as one of the country's premier steak houses (and my family knows steak). Bob's was packed with families who also had the brilliant idea to eat out on Thanksgiving. And after being seated and greeted, I knew we'd made a wise decision. The wait staff was more than attentive and handled every one of my family's ridiculous requests with ease. Blue cheese in your martini olives? No problem. One of everything on the menu? My pleasure. It was too easy and the food was impeccable! This Thanksgiving dinner was definitely memorable, and for the right reasons!

I urge everyone to do themselves a favor and experience the Omni San Francisco Hotel for themselves.
