John Travolta's 'Handsy,' Creepy Behavior At The Oscars: The Highlights

Apparently John Travolta is a very hands-on type of guy, and he proved it at Sunday's Oscar awards, both on the red carpet and during the show itself.

Last year, Travolta famously triggered a social media frenzy with his botched pronunciation of Frozen star Idina Menzel's name, instead calling her "Adele Dazeem."

This year, the Oscars invited him back to present again, apparently unable to resist the social media cache of another potential misstep by the Pulp Fiction star. The calculated risk paid off. First, during the red carpet arrivals, Travolta sneaked up behind Scarlett Johansson, wrapped his arms around her, and gave his stunned former co-star a tender and extremely awkward kiss, according to Us Weekly. See the photo here.

Then there's the chin cradling fiasco. Here's how it went down: Oscar producers reunited Idina Menzel with Travolta as presenters, allowing her to exact a playful revenge by having her "botch" his name as "Glom Gazingo." But then, the fun evaporated into creepy awkwardness as Travolta cradled the songstress's chin and wouldn't let it go, softly saying, "But you, you, my darling, my beautiful, my wickedly talented Idina Menzel ." "You got it, yay," Mendel responded, desperate for the moment to end, reports the Washington Post.

The awkwardness continued last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, when Travolta revealed his crush on Goldie Hawn as the reason he flubbed Menzel's name in the first place. He apparently met Hawn back stage just before his entrance to introduce Menzel's "Let It Go" number. He said he was "starstruck" and busy "hugging and loving [Hawn] up, and forgetting I have to go and do this bit."

Once rushed onstage, Travolta was thrown off by a phonetic spelling of Menzel's name presented in the teleprompter.

Watch this amusing clip from Jimmy Kimmel, where Travolta also admits he "played with [Menzel's] chin too much."

Will a Travolta appearance on the Oscars next year be less awkward...if they dare invite him back? They say the third time's the charm, as long as he remembers to practice names…and keep his hands to himself.
