Wylie Teacher Arrested For Alleged Improper Student Relationship

WYLIE (CBSDFW.COM) -- A 33-year-old Wylie High School teacher has been arrested for allegedly having an improper relationship with a student.

Kristin Sims was arrested on Wednesday by the Wylie Police Department in cooperation with Collin County Child Advocacy Center and the Wylie Independent School District.

A 17-year old student told an adult on campus that he had been having sex with his English teacher, including encounters in her classroom.

Authorities received information regarding an alleged offense early Wednesday morning.

"Yesterday morning, the police department received information, and we acted quickly, and started an investigation," said Donna Valdepena, a spokesperson for Wylie Police.

According to a released affidavit, the student told investigators he and Sims performed sexual acts on as many as four times.

After an investigation, Sims was taken into custody at the school and booked into the Collin County Jail on a $25,000 bond.

She has since resigned from the district.

Wylie ISD Director of Communications Ian Halperin released the following statement.

"We are extremely shocked and saddened by these allegations. Wylie ISD is cooperating fully with the investigation and we have taken all appropriate actions in accordance with the law and district policy. Mrs. Sims resigned her position with Wylie ISD and is no longer a district employee. As this is still on ongoing investigation, we cannot comment any further."

Sims spent five years with Wylie ISD.  Along with teaching English, she was also an assistant director for the drill team.

Parents and students started hearing about Sims' arrest today.

"It's definitely scary to know that this going on, especially with a child going into high school. Its getting out of hand," said parent Latisha Taylor.

Student Greg Gonzalez said, "Everybody was like on one side, the student or the teacher, but I'm not, I'm just hearing about everything."
