Woman Dies After 1-Alarm Fire At Fort Worth Apartment

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A woman is dead after a one-alarm fire at her west Fort Worth apartment.

It was about 7:30 a.m. when a neighbor called 911 after seeing smoke coming from a unit at the Woodlands Apartment complex, near Buckskin Run and Normandale Street.

Firefighters say they arrived to find a small fire with a lot of smoke. When they searched the apartment they found the woman, later identified as 63-year-old Doreen Peck, in a back bedroom. The crew immediately started CPR and took Peck to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, but she died.

Fort Worth emergency medical technician K.R. Clay said, "It's very tragic to have something like this happen, however the upside of this is that the fire didn't spread to any other apartments. It was confined to this single apartment unit."

Fire damage at the apartment complex was limited to the downstairs unit where the victim lived.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but investigators say it doesn't appear to be the result of foul play.
