ENNIS (CBSDFW.COM) - The Ellis County Sheriff's Office is investigating the actions of a Ennis dog trainer after a video surfaced depicting the man picking the dog up by the ears and hitting the animal.

"That's not the way to treat an animal or any living thing," said the dog trainer who recorded the video.

The man who recorded the video doesn't want to be identified. He used to work as a trainer at the facility.

The video in question happened at Landmark Retrievers.

"Would you want to see your animal treated like that? A pet? A family member treated that way? That's just not right," said the man who recorded the video.

It is worth noting the man who recorded the video was fired from the facility for taking outside clients.

"Ask yourself the question, you think I'm doing this for revenge? Just look at the videos yourself. Would you want you animal to be treated like that if you're paying top money at a facility?" said the man who recorded the video.

The trainer in the video, Jeffrey Schultz, said he was disciplining and defending himself after the dog snapped at him.

"It bothers me just to even see that because I don't want that to ever happen to a dog," said Schultz.

The video is only seven seconds long and Schultz feels the short video is not a fair depiction of how he normally operates or handles the dogs he said he loves.

"I stand by what I did, I got nothing to hide. I'm not here to abuse a dog whatsoever. This is my pride and passion," said Schulz.

Ellis County Sheriff's investigators said they have seen the video and are looking into what happened.
