Top Fantasy Football Surprises Of Week 1

DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) -- Though your fantasy draft is now weeks old, there's still time to upgrade your roster.

Here are 5 sleeper candidates that are available in most leagues that had big performances in Week 1.

1. Allen Hurns, WR, Jacksonville

Week 1 Stats: 4 receptions, 110 yards, 2 TDs -- 25.00 points

Hurns is owned in only 12% of fantasy leagues, yet he was the top scoring WR in Week 1. Can he and Chad Henne continue their scoring connection in week 2? It's worth a shot.

Next Week: @Washington

2. Jake Locker, QB, Tennessee

Week 1 Stats: 266 yards passing, 2 TDs, 14 yards rushing -- 24.04 points

It shouldn't be a surprise when a first round QB performs at an elite level. But Locker has been consistently inconsistent in his four-year career. Winning on the road in Kansas City is no simple task. A home game against the Cowboys' less-than-stellar secondary could allow the success to continue.

Next Week: Dallas

3. Derek Anderson, QB, Carolina

Week 1 Stats: 230 yards passing, 2 TDs, 10 yards rushing -- 22.20 points

There's a reason Anderson is owned in less than 1% of fantasy leagues. He was named Carolina's starter just hours before the game. But don't buy into Anderson just yet. Newton is expected to return from a rib injury in Week 2.

Next Week: Detroit

4. Steve Smith Sr., WR, Baltimore

Week 1 Stats: 15 targets, 7 receptions, 118 yards, TD -- 21.30 points

Cincinnati Bengals v Baltimore Ravens

A five-time Pro Bowler shouldn't be a sleeper. Steve Smith is. The 13-year Panther is looking to revive his career in Baltimore. He and Joe Flacco are off to a good start. The 15 targets is a good indication that Flacco trusts his newest weapon.

Next Week: Pittsburgh

5. Justin Forsett, RB, Baltimore

Week 1 Stats: 5 receptions, 14 yards, 11 rushes 70 yards TD -- 16.90 points

RB Bernard Pierce was underwhelming. Ray Rice may never return. Enter Justin Forsett, who totaled 16 touches on Sunday. Claim him off the waiver wire now. He's only 2% owned currently.

Next Week: Pittsburgh
