Teen Nearly Drowns In UNT Swimming Pool

DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) - A teenager attending a football camp nearly drowned Thursday night at the University of North Texas in Denton. The incident happened at about 9:00 p.m. at the school's physical education center pool.

A spokesman for the university said that the teen was spotted at the bottom of the swimming pool and quickly pulled out. CPR was started and the teen was taken to Denton Regional Hospital. He was then transported via air ambulance to Medical City Hospital in Dallas. His current condition is not known.

According to school official Buddy Price, there were five lifeguards on duty at the time of the near-drowning, with between 100 and 125 kids in the water.

The name and age of the victim are not yet known, but Price said that the school will reach out to his family to see if they can offer any assistance.

As a matter of precaution, Price said, the university will review their pool safety procedures.
