TCU Fans Disappointed In Boykin, QB Apologizes

FORT WORTH (CBS11) - News of TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin's arrest for allegedly striking an officer disappointed TCU fans shopping for team merchandise near the campus Thursday.
"We are a little shocked this close to game day not to make a mature decision regarding his future, regarding the schools future so close to a big game," said Shane Hartmann. "It seems like a bad choice. Very disappointed."
Hartmann is trying to find a lesson in Boykin's arrest he can share with his daughter Kalli, a prospective TCU student who is currently a high school sophomore.
The star quarterback known for a compassionate picture kneeling to talk to a girl in a wheelchair on the playing field is now in front of news cameras entering and leaving a San Antonio jail.
Police say Boykin was in a fight at this San Antonio bar after people there recognized him.
"Clearly this was not an appropriate way to act," said San Antonio Police Chief William McMannus. "He was being heckled and he responded to it, unfortunately."
Police said Boykin hit an employee as the fight moved out of the bar. McMannus said Bicycle police arrived as teammates tried to hustle Boykin away from the scene.
"His teammates had tried to take him back to the hotel and he broke away from them and came back," McMannus said. "He got into it with the officer. Both went to the ground."
Boykin allegedly hit the officer in the face and wouldn't stop struggling with police until he was threatened with a taser.
The arrest cost Boykin his job as quarterback in his last college game head coach Gary Patterson said.
Hartmann tells his daughter Boykin should have thought about consequences BEFORE going out to a bar in the first place.
"It's all about where you put yourself," Hartmann said. "That if you put yourself in those situations things can happen. You just never know."
Boykin is facing charges of assault of a police officer, resisting arrest and public intoxication.
