Tasha's To Do List: June 25-28

KRLD -- There's plenty to do this weekend, as summer is finally here! Tasha Stevens highlights the best concerts, food, and special events happening across North Texas.

-- If you are looking for a new gig, check out Thursday's Healthcare Career Fair at the Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A broad list of employers ranging from hospital systems, EMS, community pharmacy, home healthcare, insurance companies, and rehabilitation with more than 15,000 jobs in all areas will be at the event.

-- Do some tubing' on the Trinity. Thursday's free concert with Panther Island's Rockin the River is Mike and the Moonpies. Don't forget the fireworks.

-- This is an awesome event! The 35th Annual National Veterans Wheel Chair Games is happening at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center through Friday. Each summer, Veterans from across the United States, including a team from Great Britain, compete in 18 wheelchair sports events while providing encouragement and mentoring for new Veterans.

-- Dallas Arboretum Cool Thursdays features the Buddy Holly Revue. As the name would suggest, these guys do all of Buddy's hits, as well as hit songs he recorded by Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley. The costume contest is "Old School Cool" so dress in your Best rockabilly costume.

-- If you love gaming, be at this weekend's Texicon at the Grapevine Convention Center June 25-28. Texicon is a 4-day table top gaming convention that includes Board Games, Role Play, and Miniatures.

-- Operation Kindness, the original and largest no-kill shelter in North Texas, is having a 12-Hour Adopt-a-thon, with discounted animal adoptions this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Last year, more than 56 animals found their forever homes at Operation Kindness' Adopt-a-Thon. This year's goal is to beat last year's adoption record with more than 300 animals available for adoption. Raising Cane's will provide complimentary chicken tenders, fries and lemonade from 11:30 to 1 p.m. There will be complimentary coffee and donuts and a Food Truck Rally 6-9 p.m.

-- If you dig animals, the Fort Worth Zoo is a great place to be. And if you want to stay cool, it is a great place to be as well. The Safari Splash allows the grown-ups to relax in a shaded lounge chair and enjoy a cold soft drink or lemonade while the kids have fun in the 14,000 square-foot splash area. Safari Splash is a zero-depth water play area with four slides, a water dump tower, a fill wall for your water toys, animal-shaped water cannons and a designated toddler play area.

-- This story originated as an Italian folk tale, and has undergone many changes through the years. But this is a version you do not want to miss. Rodgers + Hammerstein's "Cinderella" is a Tony Award-winning Broadway musical with an incredible orchestra and amazing transformations with the pumpkin, the glass slipper, the masked ball and some cool new twists you won't see coming. See it at Bass Hall Thursday through Sunday.

-- When I saw this movie, I walked away thrilled because finally, a chick with a normal body and a non-perfect nose actually got the hot guy in the end. See the live, musical version of Dirty Dancing at Fair Park Thursday through July 5.

-- One of the world's best-loved musicals is back at the Winspear Opera House Thursday through July 5. See Annie.

-- There is a new festival in Main Street Garden called Taco Libre. If tacos are your thing, you will have the time of your life trying out over a dozen local taquerias selling tacos starting at $2 each. This deal is happening Saturday, June 27 and yes, they will also have beer, tequila, wrestling and music. Wrestling and tacos. They just go together.

-- You know the guy for what he does on a basketball court, but Saturday he will be showing off his baseball skillz. The Dirk Thursdayitzki- 2015 Heroes Celebrity Baseball Game at Dr. Pepper Ballpark will feature the likes of Dez Bryant, singer Ryan Cabrera and Dallas actor Josh Henderson among others. Money raised will benefit the children's charities of the Dirk Thursdayitzki Foundation and the Heroes Foundation. Gates to the Dr Pepper Ballpark will open at 4:30 p.m. The first pitch of the Heroes Special Olympics All-Star Softball Game will be thrown at 4:45 p.m. A 10-minute fireworks finale sponsored by Baylor Medical Center at Frisco will follow the game.

-- Everyone has their favorite Val Kilmer movie, and this one is mine. Nobody says Huckleberry like Val. See Tombstone on the big screen at The Granada Friday night.

-- You can hear some great music at the Allen Public Library Friday night. The Parker Station Band will play songs you know and love, everything from country and blues to pop and rock. This deal is free.

-- The band Mr. Big had a big hit with the tune "To Be with You," but they had a bunch of rockin tunes in addition to that one. See Mr. Big lead singer Eric Martin Saturday night at Poor David's Pub.

-- Dig Star Wars? Then you will dig this. Friday night's "Concerts in the Garden" is "Star Wars and Beyond: A Laser Light Spectacular". You can also have your picture taken with Star Wars characters.

-- Saturday's Concerts in the Garden features Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder.

-- Imagine jaws that can crush over 8,000 pounds in one bite, spider webs that are stronger than steel, ears that act as air conditioners, and legs that leap the human equivalent of a football field in a single bound. Or how about a shrimp that can punch with the force of a bullet, and chicken eggs that can withstand 90 pounds of pressure. It is all part of Amazing Animals: Built to Survive, a traveling exhibition making a stop at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science Thursday through Sept. 7.

-- You probably hang out in the backyard every weekend, so why not do the same thing with Reunion Tower? The Reunion Lawn Party at Reunion Tower Saturday will basically be in its "backyard" on the lawn at the base of the Tower. This is the first in a new summer series. Hang out from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. with free admission, live music, food trucks, lawn games and more.

-- These guys were rocking in the 70's and they continue to rock today. See Aerosmith at Choctaw Casino Saturday night.

-- Hard to believe that this band has been in existence for 50 years. Help Jefferson Starship/Airplane celebrate their 50th Anniversary at Gas Monkey Live Thursday night. Jefferson Starship is now fronted by singer Cathy Richardson, star of the play "Love, Janis", longtime members Donny Baldwin (drums) & Chris Smith (keyboard/bass) and guitarist Jude Gold.
