Tasha's To Do List: June 11-14

KRLD -- Summer is here, so you and the kids are probably looking for something to do! KRLD's Tasha Stevens has some ideas for you and your family.

-- It is never too early to think about ways to pawn off the kids during the summer break. I mean, find them fun and educational things to do. The Cirque Dreams Kidstime at the AT&T Performing Arts Center Wyly Theater is set for June 15-18. Basically, it teaches them how to join the circus. Register now before the other parents beat you to it.

-- If the kiddos dig horses, sign them up for The Flying G Ranch Summer Camp in Waxahachie. This Horseback Riding Summer Camp runs now through July 31 and offers Horsemanship lessons, barn classes and trail rides. After lunch, campers trail ride through wooded paths and meadows on their way to Camp Crystal Lake. Or not.

-- If you are a baseball fan, you need to check out the Baseball: America's Presidents, America's Pastime exhibit at the George W. Bush presidential Center at SMU. This exhibit uses baseball-related documents and artifacts from its archives as well as from other presidential libraries.

-- Thursday night is Cool Thursday at the Dallas Arboretum. 4 Way Street will be your musical entertainment with tunes from Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. They will also throw in some tunes by Buffalo Springfield, The Byrds, and Crazy Horse. The weekly costume contest has a Woodstock theme to win the 'Original Hipster Award.'"

-- And while we are being all earthy, Thursday night's Evening in the Shed at the Dallas Farmers Market will have food, drinks, arts and crafts and live music.

-- No, you are not crazy. Well, maybe a little crazy -- but not totally crazy. Rockin the River at Panther Island Pavilion is running late this year thanks to Mama Nature. But it will be back soon for year number 5 on the Trinity River, so get ready to get into the water, beer in hand, tube under tush. Opening night has moved to June 25, featuring Mike & the Moonpies. Prophets and Outlaws have been rescheduled for August 20 and Brandon Jenkins will now close the series on August 27.

-- "Jurassic World" hits theaters on Friday!

-- But you can check out the Giants of the Jurassic at the Dallas Zoo Thursday through September 7. See more than 20 roaring, animatronic dinosaurs, plus a world-renowned interactive theater puppet experience, Erth's Dinosaur Zoo Live.

-- This Saturday night at the Dallas Zoo, check out Safari Nights featuring Journey tribute band, Escape.

-- The All Around Ranch Rodeo Challenge is happening at Will Rogers Complex this weekend (June 11-13). This is dubbed "The World's Richest Ranch Rodeo," meaning those taking part are set to win a ton. It doesn't mean that the gold diggers should show up in mass to land themselves a rich cowboy.

-- "There are a number of good singers, a few great singers, then there is Johnny Mathis." That is what Barbara Streisand had to say about Johnny Mathis. You know you are something when Babs is singing your praises. No pun intended. Help celebrate Mathis' 58th year in the music industry Thursday night at the Winspear.

-- Here is something really cool to do. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz Exhibit at Grapevine Convention and Visitors Bureau allows you to meander along the Yellow Brick Road with the exhibit featuring 11 sections, each addressing a different element of the story: Dorothy's House, Tornado, and the Emerald City. It is free and you can see it now through August 21.

-- Taste of Dallas at Fair Park is coming up June Friday June 12-14 at Fair Park. Food booths from more than 70 restaurants will be set up selling samples for $1 to $4 each. Add to that a barbecue contest, food trucks, eating competitions, and a dessert destination called the Sweet Factory, and you have a pretty freakin' awesome day!

-- Most girls watched Cinderella and walked away thinking the moral of the story was about getting the handsome prince. I walked away thinking it sucked to have big feet that wouldn't fit into a teeny tiny slipper. See Cinderella live now through June 21 at Fair Park.

-- Here is something cool that could help you out if you ever say to heck with the world and escape to the outback. The Edible Wild Plants workshop at Texas Discovery Gardens at Fair Park this Saturday will teach you what you can and cannot eat outside. Believe it or not, many of our local plants – especially common weeds – are extremely nutritious!

-- I have been saying for years that I need to get my Ham Radio operators license because in the case of power outages/storms/EMP's…Ham Radios are the only form of communication that works. If you are a Ham Radio Operator, or you want to learn more about it, be at this weekend's (Fri/Sat) Ham-Com: Ham Radio Users Convention at the Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas.

-- The Gaylord Texan Resort's 12th Annual SummerFest is now underway. It is a family friendly deal with plenty of stuff for everyone -- unique culinary programs, and a 10 acre pool and lazy river playground, Paradise Springs. A lot of stuff to do now through September 7.

-- Tails on Trails at Valley Creek Park is set for this Saturday in Mesquite and celebrates National Trails Day with a 1-mile walk, contests, agility course, dog training presentations and more.

-- During the entire month of June take $25 off the adoption fee of any cat or kitten at Operation Kindness! Every cat or kitten at Operation Kindness is spayed or neutered, microchipped and current on vaccinations. -- If you are a fan of the music of Stevie Ray Vaughn, I have something for you, too. Friday night's Irving Concert Series at Whistle Stop Plaza features SRV tribute band…Texas Flood.

-- This guy is one of my musical faves. He started out with The Babys giving us great songs like "Every time I think of You" "Isn't It Time" "Back on my Feet Again"…then he did the solo thing and gave us "Missing You" and "Change" in the movie Vision Quest -- and then there was his stuff with Bad English "When I See You Smile" and "The Price of Love". See John Waite at Southside Music Hall this Saturday.

-- This looks totally cool. Friday through Sunday, check out Turtle-ly '80s at Dallas City Performance Hall. From radio pop hits, TV themes, and show tunes, join the 160 voice male chorus as it celebrates its founding decade of teased hair, and shoulder pads.

This Saturday is the 5th Annual Jack's Throwback Show at Gexa. Your favorite band won't be there but the next best thing will be…their tribute band doppelganger.
