Tarrant County Drivers Say Construction Is Road To Confusion

COLLEYVILLE (CBS 11 NEWS) - A traffic circle project that should have traffic flowing more smoothly through the busy Intersection of Cheek-Sparger Road and Central Drive in Colleyville temporarily has driver's heads spinning as they navigate a confusing maze of orange barricades and signs with arrows.
"I think it's confusing," said Robin Wilder who runs a school next to the intersection. "I think people are slowing down and trying to figure out who's turn it is and if they should stop or go through the circle.
Wilder watches traffic in the construction zone all day. She sees cars stopping, starting and stopping again as drivers try to figure when and where to go.
In one direction, cars have to stop, go to the middle of the circle, stop again and then turn. "So that's confusing, because there's people who are going through the circle who've already stopped," Wilder said.
Colleyville officials say the construction was supposed to be finished in late summer. But delays in moving utilities have stalled the project for months.
The headaches accompanied by the lingering project has Wilder sending emails to parents about what the latest signs of confusion are around the roundabout.
"A lot of it because it changes every couple days or so," Wilder laughed. "There's a different traffic pattern. There's a different road that's open."
When it's complete, hopefully by February, Colleyville officials say the roundabout should prevent traffic backups on the busy cross streets.
But for now the question is when will and the stopping and starting and stopping stop for good?
"They ask me almost every day when it's going to be done, Wilder said about the parents who have kids at her school. Her reply? "I will let them know when they tell me. But not probably anytime soon."
