Snowmobiler Colten Moore Wins X Games Gold In Memory Of Brother
KRUM (CBSDFW.COM) - Huddled over his snowmobile in prayer seconds before his snowmobile freestyle run at the Winter X Games, Colten Moore said the moment almost got to him.
"I prayed to God and I prayed to Caleb to be with me," said the 24-year-old snowmobiler from Krum. "I talked with Caleb. I was like, 'Dude, give me a little bit. Let me just focus."
Last year on the same course in Aspen, Colorado, his older brother, Caleb Moore, crashed his snowmobile and a week later died from his injuries.
That same day Colten Moore also crashed breaking his pelvis.
"Everyone asks if I thought about quitting or not riding but there's no way," said Moore. "This is what we grew up doing. We love it."
At the end of what would be a gold medal run on Saturday, Moore pointed to the sky with three fingers and then one. Caleb's old number was 31.
"I give it all to him and that's just the way I do it," he said. "I know Caleb is there helping me out. I just go out and act like we are riding together like we always did."
Moore won two medals at the Winter X Games - a bronze in snowmobile long jump competition and gold in snowmobile freestyle.
Moore said he plans to hang the gold medal up next to a picture of his brother.
In some ways he said he wishes the gold medal wasn't his. Had his brother been competing he said would have won it.
"He was a big brother, you know. He can't let little brother win. It would have definitely been a battle."
