Six Flags Over Texas Pulls All Non-American Flags Including Confederate States Flag

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Six Flags Over Texas has changed all of their flags to American Flags and said that the Confederate States flag will be completely removed from the park.

The previous flags flying outside the park were the Confederate States of America flag, the Mexican flag, the Spanish flag, the French flag and the Texas flag, to go along with the American flag.

Six Flags over Texas released a statement on their decision Friday:

"At Six Flags Over Texas, we strive every single day to make people happy and to create a fun, thrilling and safe family friendly experience for our guests. We always choose to focus on celebrating the things that unite us versus those that divide us. As such, we have changed the flag displays in our park to feature American flags."

When asked by 1080 KRLD why they didn't just change the Confederate States of America flag, manager of communications Sharon Parker said, "we just know that the American flag is something we know and can stand behind. That's going to be our focus at this time."

KRLD also asked if this was a permanent change at the park and Parker said they'll continue to use branded flags for special events.

"We will highlight our major events with branded flags, as we've done in the past, like Fright Fest and Holiday in the Park but this will be our flag representation moving forward," Parker said.

When asked how this would affect the park going forward, Parker said it wouldn't change anything.

"We're still the same. We're still Six Flags Over Texas, however, we want to focus on celebrating things that unite our guests versus divide our guests. Therefore, the American flag is what you will see as you enter our front gates."

"Outside of us removing the Confederate States of America Flag wherever it is on display ... The Six Flags Over Texas that you come out and enjoy on a regular basis will still be here to welcome you ... the rides and attractions are going to be the main focal point but we definitely don't want to offend anyone while they're having a great time at our park."

Earlier this week Six Flags told a Houston newspaper they would continue to fly the Confederate States flag.
