ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Helping the injured and families of the fallen, those impacted by the July ambush in Downtown Dallas got a chance to see the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday thanks to a player from the opposite sideline.

"It's amazing! I didn't expect this. So it's awesome," said Senior Cpl. Ivan Saldana of Dallas Police.

Saldana is one of the officers injured in the downtown shooting on July 7th. He was hit with shrapnel in his leg.

"We're very thankful for our lives. God protected us that day," said Saldana. "Kind of sad not all of our partners made it. We always think about them and keep them in our mind and heart."

DART Officer Brent Thompson was one of the give officers who died during the ambush.

"It's the first one without Brent so it's a tough one," said Lowell Thompson, Brent Thompson's brother.

Making it a little easier on Thompson, a simple gesture from a player going up against his beloved Dallas Cowboys.

"He said Texas is a big place but football makes it smaller," said Thompson.

Arlington native and Washington Redskin Ty Nsekhe decided to give his 10 tickets to those impacted by the July 7th shooting.

"I was in my living room. So I seen it on TV all that was taking place and I was just shocked," said Ty Nsekhe, left tackle for the Redskins.

Sitting in his home in Grand Prairie, Nsekhe took the shooting personal.

"It's just a sad, sad happening of events. But you know hopefully those tickets today, I was able to put a couple smiles on their faces," said Nsekhe.

The Arlington native might have converted a few Dallas fans in the process as well.

"We're Cowboy fans and I guess one Redskins fan. Just one of them," joked Thompson.
