Plaque To Memorialize Runner Murdered By Mentally Ill Man

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Before committing suicide, the wife of runner David Stevens, who was killed at random by a mentally ill man in October, raised $1400 for a plaque to honor her husband.

Several running groups helped the late Mrs. Stevens come up with the funds for the plaque that will be placed on a bench beneath the Walnut Hill overpass, close to the area where Stevens was brutally attacked.

"It was such a random crime, that that could be you. And I think that strikes a chord with anyone who goes and exercises outside at a normal time of day," said Attorney Robert Radcliff, an avid runner himself. "I went by the site and there was some makeshift memorials and I started thinking if we could do something a little more permanent."

Radcliff said he hopes to have the plaque up in a couple of weeks.
