RICHARDSON (CBSDFW.COM) - A Plano man has been arrested after Richardson Police said the man knowingly drove away from the scene of a fatal wreck along Highway 75 near Campbell Road on Christmas Day.

"I was supposed to come here and we were supposed to enjoy a beautiful party and now that's all been lost," said Vinay Dhande, the victim's nephew.

Police said Latif did not stop to help and believe, based on witness reports, Latif did everything in his power to get away from the scene of the wreck.

Investigators said Latif eventually turned himself in and that is when he was arrested and charged.

"She won't come back," said Dhande. "She's dead. So I mean to be honest, I really don't have any interest in what's happening there."

Dhande said the holidays will never be the same knowing the world lost such a generous and gracious person.

"It's a very great loss for us and I cannot say how I can express that. But she was an extremely loveable lady," said Dhande.

When asked if any substances played a roll or if distracted driving was an issue in the wreck, Richardson Police said all factors are being investigated.
