North Texas 'Soccer Moms' Playing In Leagues Of Their Own

NORTH TEXAS (CBS 11 NEWS) - On Friday night, co-ed soccer teams take the field at Blue Sky Sports Center in Keller. Mom Brittany Chavez says, "This is definitely my happy hour."
Chavez is the mother of a 5-year-old boy, who like her, plays soccer. She is one of many self-proclaimed 'soccer moms,' who not just cheer their children on from the sidelines, but also take part in the game.
"[We're] doing what we love and we get to do the thing we're teaching our kids to do."
Sarah Harvey is a mother of two who says the term 'soccer mom' is a badge she wears with honor. She herself, plays on eight teams. Harvey struggles with lupus and other health issues and calls the sport, her therapy. "It gives me pain relief. It gives me freedom."
The women's league plays at Blue Sky Sports on Mondays, attracting soccer players of all abilities: from beginners to the soccer obsessed. They come for comradery, competition and even cardio.
"You don't have to just go and work on the treadmill for 30 minutes, or an hour, which is kind of boring," explained Jorden Reed, Blue Sky Sports Center's Marketing Manager. "You're kicking around a soccer ball. It's fun."
When the U.S. Women's Soccer Team scored a World Cup victory in 2015, the team also scored new interest in women's soccer.
Harvey said, "There are more women's leagues now then there have ever been, which is amazing, and it's great for me because I can play on more teams." Her children see their mom play and take chances at a game they love. To them that makes her a soccer mom and cool mom too.
Harvey's daughter, Tatum, knew exactly how to describe her mother on the field. "She's very good and she's very passionate about it!"
