NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - It was just this week that ITT Educational Services closed down every one of their Technical Institute campuses in the country. Now, several North Texas universities and community colleges are coming to the rescue of students left without a school.

ITT shuttered the doors of more than 130 campuses in 38 states after the U.S. Department of Education banned the for-profit college chain from accepting new students who receive federal financial aid. The feds had been investigating the tech school in regards to their recruiting and accounting practices.

To help those left out in the cold, the University of North Texas is enrolling qualified ITT Tech students for classes already underway this fall and those in the spring . Officials with the university say they have "undergraduate degree programs specifically designed to accept 45 or more credits" transferred from technical programs.

The university is holding an open house at the campus in Frisco, located at 2811 Internet Boulevard, on September 21.  ITT Tech students, and any other students, interested in enrolling in future semesters can get more information at the event that runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

In Fort Worth, officials with Tarrant County College say they want to help the more than 500 students who attended the ITT campus in Arlington make a smooth transition.

TCC is hosting an education fair for former ITT students. The sessions will include free transcript reviews and advising. The education fair will be held on September 21 in the Fusion Auditorium of the Center for Excellence in Energy Technology. The building is located on the south campus at 5301 Campus Drive in Fort Worth.

TCC officials admit that not all ITT credits may transfer to the college but say they are "committed to helping affected students make a cost- and time-efficient transition so they may complete their studies and get into the workforce quickly."

In Dallas, Richland College has scheduled several "information sessions" for former ITT Technical Institute students and other students who may have been considering attending ITT.

The sessions there will take place next week on September 12 and 13. Two sessions will be held each day, at 6:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on the campus at 12800 Abrams Road, in Sabine Hall.
