GARLAND (CBS11 SPORTS) - This week, the US Open is rolling through Garland.

One of four major professional bowling tournaments each year, it's being held in North Texas for the first time since 1976.

An interesting field has assembled at the AMF Bowling Center.

70-year-old J.L. Morse of Terrell is the oldest competitor in the field while 17-year-old Brandon Walters, a senior at Rowlett High School, is the youngest.

Morse says participating in this tournament is one more thing he can cross off his bucket list, and it's the best form of exercise he knows.

Walters says he's thankful to have an opportunity to soak up some of the knowledge of the bowlers he watches on television each week.

During qualifying, the bowlers must bowl eight consecutive games with the only break in action being when they change lanes.

Asked how he keeps up with the younger guys, Morse says "I'm just trying to grow up and be like them."

Walters, in between shots, calms his nerves by snacking on candy bars given to him by his mother. B

oth Brandon Walters and J.L. Morse agree that bowling is a sport that bridges all gaps in life.
