FLOWER MOUND (CBSDFW.COM) – A tearful reunion between a military father and his daughter happened at Chisolm Trail High School Thursday afternoon.

A nervous group of students lining the hall set the scene. Also waiting was a nervous man wearing combat boots. And they were all waiting for Kayla Avila, 16.

Her father, Staff Sergeant Juan Avila went through three overseas Army deployments, and just returned from serving seven months in Kuwait.

Kayla was called to the office without knowing why. She screamed the moment she saw her father waiting for her in the hallway; almost knocking him over as she ran and leapt into his arms.

"I've missed you baby," said Sgt. Avila as Kayla gasped for breath and her classmates cheered.

"I thought I was in trouble or something," laughed Kayla.

After his three deployments totaling 35 months, Sgt. Avila said he has never had a homecoming like the one shared with his daughter.

"After my third tour, this is the first time I've done something like this. So, I was a little nervous. But it was good. It's good to be home and be with the kids," he said.

Two of Kayla's other sisters joined them later for a game of volleyball.

"Now I'm back home. I'm going to take some time off to be with my wife and kids. And enjoy it," said Sgt. Avila.
