LEWISVILLE (CBS11) - Police in Lewisville have suspended their search for a pair of suspected killers after a man was found shot to death just after noon near 121 and Forestbrook.

"In Lewisville? On this road? Near this complex?" Katie Auld lives nearby and couldn't believe what was unfolding just steps from her front door. "That's insane. This is really a safe area, it really is. I've been in and out of Lewisville all of my life. I grew up in Keller, lived in Keller: never, never thought this would happen here."

Shortly after noon, a caller reported shots fired in the area. Police arrived a to find a man in his 20s shot to death in a green Nissan Altima. The vehicle was left in the middle of the street while the suspects who had also been in the car, escaped into some nearby woods.

"Yeah, it does concern me… that's my kids," says Caroline Johnson. Johnson says her adult son and daughter live in the complex, so she hurried to the scene.

"It's horrible," says Johnson, " ou don't know the reason why or what the circumstances were… it's horrible that anybody has to go like that. But, yeah, way too close to my kids."

A Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) helicopter hovered overhead as canine teams searched the wooded area. But, the pair of suspected killers appear to have vanished. After suspending the search of the area, Lewisville police officials assured the community that the investigation is moving forward.

"The detectives are processing the vehicle and will process all items left at the scene, whether it's a cell phone or something like that, to lead us in the direction of who the perpetrator was," says Capt. Kevin Deaver, a Lewisville Police spokesperson.

And while there is much that detectives still don't know, investigators are confident that the fatal shooting does not appear to be random.
"It's a little shocking," says Auld, "but, to know that it's not random... I guess it's still infuriating, but, it makes [me] feel a little bit better."

Nevertheless police are urging residents in the area to be cautious and report anything that appears suspicious. The murder is the second in Lewisville this year.
