Local School Paying Students Who Ace AP Tests
CARROLLTON (CBSDFW.COM) - A new program has a North Texas high school paying students who do well on Advanced Placement tests.
R. L. Turner High School, in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, is celebrating a milestone. The Turner class of 2012 is the 100th graduating class of the high school. To commemorate the upcoming achievement the school will be handing out $100 to students who take and pass AP tests.
A portion of the money for the program comes from the LBJ Express -- the company widening Interstate-635.
"This is a high school that is fairly close to the project itself and one of the things that the LBJ Express Project team desires is a real lasting impact on science, technology, engineering and math," LBJ Express spokesman Andy RIttler said.
AP Strategies and the National Institute of Science and Mathematics are also funding the $502,250 grant program.
And the youngsters aren't the only ones with the opportunity to take checks to the bank. Teachers whose students do well on the AP tests will also get a cash prize.
