Indictment Returned In Death Of T. Boone Pickens' Grandson
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A former TCU student has been indicted on one count of felony murder in the death of T. Boone Pickens' grandson in January.
A Tarrant County medical examiner determined that 21-year-old Thomas Boone Pickens IV died on Jan. 29 from an accidental heroin overdose.
Brennan Rodriguez, a former classmate and friend of Pickens, was indicted on one count each of felony murder, manslaughter, tampering with physical evidence, and delivering a controlled substance which resulted in a death. If convicted of felony murder, Rodriguez faces up to life in prison. Rodriguez is accused of intentionally injecting Ty Pickens with heroin. The grand jury says that ultimately caused Pickens' death.
Rodriguez was arrested by Fort Worth Police in March on charges that he removed heroin, drug paraphernalia, syringes and marijuana from his apartment on Rogers Road after Pickens was taken to the hospital. Earlier this year, Rodriguez posted the $5,000 bond on the tampering with evidence charge. Now that he is facing a first degree murder charge, the DA's office says the prosecutor ask for a higher bond. Rodriguez's attorney, Bruce Ashworth, declined to comment.
In a statement, the Pickens family says quote: "We are grateful that the Tarrant County Grand Jury has taken the first step in holding Brennan Rodriguez responsible for his role in the death of Ty Pickens. Ty was not a heroin user or addict and we believe that the justice system will reveal the truth of what happened that unfortunate night of January 28, 2013."
