Grand Jury: No Charges For Officer In Stun Gun Death
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM/AP) — A Tarrant County grand jury has declined to indict a Fort Worth police officer in connection with the death of a 300-pound man who died shortly after being shocked with a stun gun during a drug raid.
The Tarrant County district attorney's office said Monday that the officer was no-billed on Friday in the May 2013 death of Jermaine Darden, who was shocked with a stun gun. Police used the Taser on Darden during the execution of a narcotics search warrant, in the 3200 block of Thannisch Avenue in southeast Fort Worth. Officers said the 34-year-old was resisting arrest during the raid.
Darden, who was obese and suffering from cardiovascular disease, was pronounced dead at an area hospital. The Tarrant County medical examiner ruled his death "natural," concluding that the stun gun did not contribute to his death.
