Garrett Brings Vivid 9-11 Memory To Anniversary

IRVING (AP)  Cowboys coach Jason Garrett will return to New York this weekend carrying his own vivid 9/11 memory.

Garrett was a backup quarterback on the New York Giants in 2001. He'd just returned to his Upper West Side apartment about 5 miles from the World Trade Center that Tuesday morning following a season opener in Denver the night before.

He was trying to fall asleep, but couldn't because of all the fire trucks blaring sirens as they passed his building. He didn't know what was going on until a former teammate called and told him.

On Sunday night, the Cowboys will be playing the Jets in a prime-time season opener wrapped in tributes to those who died that day, and to everyone else affected by the tragedy.
