FW City Council Cleans House At The T, Appoints New Board
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A CBS 11 I-Team investigation has led to major changes for leadership of The T.
Tuesday night, the Fort Worth City Council voted to completely clean house, replacing all eight of the city-appointed members of The T's board. CBS 11 has also learned the single county-appointed member of the board will be likely replaced next week.
Fort Worth City Councilman Jungus Jordan says this is the first time the entire board has been replaced.
The new appointees will oversee the 800-million dollar commuter rail line that will extend over much of North Texas, which is nearly four years behind schedule.
Council members and Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price say they are confident with the new leadership. They say they believe the project can get back on track and progress will be made on the 37-mile commuter train service.
Jordan says of the new appointments, "I think there were questions raised and we wanted to make sure we had the oversight."
The changes come after CBS 11's Ginger Allen uncovered tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars spent by board members on travel and other perks. The I-Team investigation uncovered questionable spending on ski trips and fancy hotels, including some rooms as close as Dallas.
Board members later defended those travel expenses as educational and necessary.
Mayor Betsy Price says the city will review CBS 11's findings. She is also asking for an audit of the agency to see if taxpayer money has been wasted.
