Frisco Leaders Shocked By Increase In Population Projections
FRISCO (CBSDFW.COM) - One North Texas city got a glimpse at it's future and leaders were shocked by what the area is projected to look like in 20 years.
Frisco city leaders are developing a new plan for future growth now that the population will be much bigger than earlier projected.
As has been the case for several years, on Thursday another new business was laying its foundation in Frisco.
But while surging growth seems to be moving faster there than anywhere else, the population boom is happening at an even faster pace than city planners anticipated.
The city held a meeting Thursday night to discuss what Frisco will look like in two decades.
New estimates show a potential population of 370,000, much larger than the 280,000 predicted a few years ago. The increase would put Frisco just behind Arlington as the 4th largest city in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Currently the city is number 10.
Frisco Resident Susanne Kerley said, "I think it's amazing!" When asked if she thought the city is getting too big Kerley responded, "No. I think they're ready for it."
The meeting gave residents like Kerley a chance to have a say in what the cities priorities should be over the next 10 to 20 years.
Most residents want to see natural resources preserved and more open spaces factored in to urban planning.
Residents who didn't make the meeting can offer feedback by completing an online survey.
The city will hold another citywide meeting and "community workshop" on May 17.
