Fort Worth Teen Arrested With Pressure Cooker, Fertilizer In Trunk
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - North Texas police thought they might have stumbled upon another Boston-style bomber.
A Fort Worth teenager who'd been pulled over had a pressure cooker and some odd ingredients with him.
It all started Friday, April 19, when a homeless man called authorities to report he had was stranded at a Wichita Falls intersection, after the man he had gotten a ride from ran out of gas.
When police responded they say the driver, 17-year-old Frank Reynolds from Fort Worth, was acting strangely and appeared to be high. They searched his car and found K-2 and a pipe.
In his trunk, they found all the makings of a bomb: a pressure cooker, fertilizer, fireworks, electrical connectors and other items that could be components of an explosive device.
The Archer County Sheriff's office called the FBI to investigate, as this discovery was made just days after two men used pressure cooker bombs at the Boston marathon finish line.
After interviewing the teen, the FBI concluded the materials were being used to cultivate hallucinogenic mushrooms, rather than make a bomb.
Frank Reynolds was arrested and taken to jail for possession of illegal drugs and paraphernalia. He was released Sunday when his parents bailed him out.
