Fort Worth Drive-In Transformed For Buffett Concert

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - The Coyote Drive-In movie theater at Panther Island in Fort Worth transformed into Margaritaville Thursday night, for a first of its kind Jimmy Buffett show.

Buffett, who has a love for drive-ins, played to a sold out crowd of 1,200 people, set against the backdrop of the Fort Worth skyline.

Many drove cars and picks ups; others rode horses over from the Fort Worth Stockyards.

While 'Parrotheads' danced and sang the night away in front of the live stage, countless other fans gathered at their local drive-in theaters across the country, to watch a live broadcast of the concert.

At the Galaxy Drive-In, in Ennis, about 100 fans—many in their beach gear—showed up for the viewing.

"You've got Fort Worth in the background. It's at a drive in. We're hanging out in our boat. It's amazing," said Dakotah Elsholtz, who hitched up a boat to his truck and drove it to the Fort Worth venue.

Brandt Wood, co-owner of The Coyote and an event organizer, says this won't be the last time a concert is held here. He was happy to kick off the endeavor with Buffett.

"I think it's just wonderful. We grew up at drive-in theaters," said Liz Hawkins.

The drive-in concert sold out in seconds.

Buffett isn't leaving town yet; he plays a big show at Toyota Stadium on Saturday in Frisco.
