HILLSBORO (CBSDFW.COM) - Two members of a Hill County family are dead, and two other family members are critically injured, after a car crash Sunday night just outside of Hillsboro. It happened shortly before 8:00 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 22 and FM 309, two miles west of the city.

The Texas Department of Public Safety stated that a Ford Fusion was slowing down, either to turn or because of traffic, when it was struck from behind by a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban traveling at a highway speed. The hurt family was inside of the Fusion.

Two people were pronounced dead -- a 44-year-old father and his 3-year-old daughter -- while two others were taken to the hospital in critical condition. The 32-year-old mother was driving the vehicle, and taken by air ambulance to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Hospital in Waco. The couple's 6-year-old daughter was transported, also by air ambulance, to Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth.

Officials said that the family had only been living in Hillsboro for a few months, having recently moved from Kansas.

According to Texas DPS troopers, the 28-year-old woman who was behind the wheel of the Suburban failed to push her brakes before hitting the family's vehicle. She was also taken to a nearby hospital, and is expected to be okay. There was no sign that alcohol played a factor in this crash.

Texas DPS troopers said that the woman had just left work when the crash happened. There has been no decision about possible charges that she may now face.

Officials have not released the names of anyone involved in this incident.
