DPD Officer Seeks Counseling After Deadly Attacks, Encourages Others To Participate

DALLAS (CBSDFW) - A veteran Dallas Police officer is coming forward to acknowledge he's coping with a troubling side effect from last week's deadly attack.
Senior Corporal Michael Walton is first officer to publicly come forward to announce he will seek counseling for what he experienced as a special ops detective.
Walton was among dozens, perhaps hundreds of officers called to the scene where five officers were gunned down, including his former partner Mike Smith.
The 26-year veteran is also president of the Dallas chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police and will encourage his members to also meet with a counselor.
"It's ok you can go do this, you know. The president of the FOP did it you can go do it too, not that I'm having any kind of emotional problems now but I want to make sure I can lead," says Sr. Cpl. Michael Walton, Fraternal Order of Police President.
Chief David Brown said earlier this week he might make counseling mandatory for all officers.
