DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM/AP) - Dallas Police say a man was shot dead while taking pictures of snow early Thursday morning.

According to investigators, 36-year-old Ahmed Al-Jumaili was in a parking lot in the 9900 block of Walnut Street after midnight taking pictures off snow when he was shot.

Police say Al-Jumaili was rushed to Presbyterian Hospital, where he died.

Officer Monica Cordova says witness told police some unknown men were randomly firing when a bullet struck the victim.

However, a spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations tells CBS 11, because of a rise in incidents against Muslims, they wonder if this shooting was actually random.

Nearby residents say they heard lots of gunshots.

"That was out of the ordinary," said Maurice Lincoln.  "We heard a series of five shots, then it stopped.  Then all of a sudden, what was that?  Than more shots."

Al-Jumaili's Father-in-law, Mohammed Altaae spoke to CBS 11 about what happened.

"They were coming from the exit gate. My son-in law and his wife had just come out to take pictures of the snow, because the snow yesterday was [a lot], and they came from there and came here and started shooting," said Mohammed Altaae.

Several parked vehicles in the area were also hit by gunfire.
