DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Officials with Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) are investigating a deadly Monday morning crash involving a train and a pedestrian.

The accident happened along Royal Lane in Dallas, where the service's Blue Line crosses over the roadway, between the Lake Highlands station and the LBJ/Skillman station.

The train was heading southbound along the BLUE line when the pedestrian was hit and killed. Initial reports, according to DART, indicate the male victim tried to run across the track in a failed attempt at beating the train. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

There were no reports of injuries to anybody on the train, but some passengers were shaken up. Rider Santos Davila said, "We thought the train had just stopped. I knew something wasn't right because I felt the train went a little to the right. So I said, 'something's not right here.'"

DART used a bus shuttle to temporarily transport riders between the Lake Highlands station and the LBJ/Skillman station until police cleared the scene.

Police have not yet released the name of the man killed in the accident.
