Crews Battle 4-Alarm Fire At Apartment Complex In Oak Cliff
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Crews with Dallas Fire-Rescue battled a four-alarm fire at an apartment complex in Oak Cliff Tuesday evening.
Crews responded to the fire just after 6:45 p.m. at a vacant apartment building in the 800 block of North Ewing Avenue.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, they saw flames coming from two separate apartment buildings. Flames from the vacant apartment building spread to a neighboring building. As the fire grew, a four-alarm response was initiated.
Fire officials say almost 100 firefighters were needed to bring the fire under control before they declared it extinguished.
According to reports at the scene, the fire caused a partial roof collapse of one of the buildings and that electricity was cut from several surrounding buildings. Police at the scene say the building where the fire started had been vacant for several months and that there were no residents inside.
Officials say of the two buildings involved in the fire, one of them was a one-story, five-unit building that was occupied. Eight residents were displaced from the building, but the American Red Cross was called to assist.
There were no injuries to residents or firefighters. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
