DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Service Systems Associates on Wednesday reported that they experienced a security breach at the credit card payment systems of several zoo gift shops across the nation, including the Dallas Zoo. The security breach took place between March 24 and May 20 of this year.

Other locations impacted by the breach include: Houston Zoo, El Paso Zoo, Detroit Zoo, Zoo Miami, Museum of Science and Industry in Tampa, Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, Herman Park Conservancy, Fresno Chaffee Zoo and Honolulu Zoo.

The malware was identified and removed, the company explained, and zoo visitors have no reason to worry now.

The company is also working with an independent investigator for more details about the breach, and they took several steps to prevent future attacks.

Service Systems Associates has alerted credit card companies and their customers about the situation. Dallas Zoo guests who used a credit card or debit card in the gift shops during this time period are urged to visit the company's website for additional information, and to find out about a year of fraud protection that is being offered.

Customers who see fraudulent activity on their statements should contact their card company as soon as possible to report the issue and have the charges removed.
