Cowboys Fan Attacked, Beaten After Thanksgiving Day Game
ARLINGTON (CBS 11 NEWS) - With two big black eyes and a broken nose, Carlos Olivares looks like he's been in a fight. He just can't remember.
"Who they were. I mean how it happened. I just don't, I can't… it's like part of my memory I just can't get back," he said.
Olivares was at the Dallas Cowboys game on Thanksgiving Day. He does remember leaving the stadium, lagging behind his friends. "My friends, they were pretty excited, yelling, 'Go, Cowboys!'"
The 33-year-olds next memory is waking up in a hospital bed at Medical Center Arlington, unable to open his eyes.
"When I woke up, I basically woke up in shock," he said. "I got up real fast 'cause I was real scared where I was. These people were trying to hold me down."
Witnesses told Arlington police that three or four men wearing Oakland Raiders attire had attacked Olivares near the stadium. After a while his friends went looking for him and found him lying on the ground, unconscious.
Police aren't sure what provoked the fight, and without any recollection of it, neither does Olivares. He does know his cell phone disappeared that night. So did the cash from his wallet.
Despite the beating and memory loss, doctors told Olivares he was lucky to have walk away and to remember that's what matters. "I'm just kind of glad I'm left alive," he said.
Olivares does have two assault convictions, both at least a decade old. He said he got into fights when he was younger, but not recently.
