3-Year-Old Dies After Found In Hot Car In Fort Worth

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A three-year-old died after police say the child was found unresponsive in a hot vehicle Friday afternoon in the 3800 block of Waldorf Street in Fort Worth.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner identified the three-year-old as Keandre Goodman.

"He was a precious, sweet little boy. Everybody loved him. He loved everybody, including his brother and his sister," said Keandre's mother Kendra Wells-Goodman.

Police say children were playing in the yard of the home when Keandre climbed inside of a broken-down car. Police believe the child was in the hot vehicle for at least 45 minutes.

The child was transported to Cook Children's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"Five minutes is all it really takes," said MedStar paramedic Jason Hernandez.

He says when it's hot outside, it gets even hotter inside a vehicle. "Right about 70 degrees, the temperature in your car will start hitting 90 degrees."

According to a San Jose State University professor who tracks heat-related deaths, there have been seven cases of children who have died in hot cars this year in Texas.

Keandre wasn't able to be saved by the time he was taken to the hospital. All his family can do is try to hold on to happy memories.

"He put a smile on everybody's face. He was just a loving and caring son," said Keandre's father Timothy Goodman. "He was my right-hand man. Me being a mechanic, my son was always there beside me. He always had a wrench or a tool in his hand."
