DFW Brides Cheated Out Of Photo Booth
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Brides across North Texas said that they got stood up on their wedding day -- not by their grooms, but by a photo booth business.
In April, Motion Pictures Photo Booths in Royce City advertised a discount on the popular website Groupon.
Charity Santibanez said that she jumped on the opportunity to provide a photo booth for guests. "It was one of the most important things for me, because it was supposed to be really fun," said Santibanez.
On her big day, though, Santibanez said that she walked into her reception to see the corner set aside for the booth sitting empty. "There was nothing," she said. "I'm not gonna lie. I was upset." Santibanez said that she paid $625 dollars directly to the company, but never heard from them again.
Amy Powell said that she purchased the Groupon voucher for her wedding day, too. On August 8, two days before her wedding, she even received an email confirming the photo booth would be at her reception. The day of the wedding, though, no one showed up, and no one answered the phone. "I was shocked that someone would do something like that on their wedding day," she said.
Powell said that she tried to get in touch with the company, but it soon disappeared. "They completely deleted their Facebook page, along with their website."
"I mean, they closed shop... everything," said Santibanez.
CBS 11 News tracked the company to a home in Roysce City. A woman who came to the door said that she did not know anything about Motion Pictures Photo Booths. But when Santibanez was shown the video of the woman, she immediately identified her as the one who took her money.
Groupon, meanwhile, released the following statement to CBS 11 News:
"Groupon recently offered a deal with Motion Pictures Photobooth. At this time we are not confident that the merchant can deliver an experience on par with Groupon's standards. While these situations are rare and unfortunate, the Groupon Promise has customers' backs when they occur. We have proactively notified and offered a refund to all purchasers of this deal on September 11th."
Powell said that she has already received her refund from Groupon, but does not expect to see the extra $100 that she paid Motion Pictures Photo Booths for an additional hour of service.
Santibanez, who did not buy a voucher through Groupon, does not expect to see any of her money returned.
