Body Of Missing Child Found In Rockwall County

HEATH (CBSDFW.COM) -- The body of a missing 12-year-old boy was found on Tuesday night in a wooded area in Rockwall County less than an hour after being reported missing.

A search team found the boy near Lake Ray Hubbard, deceased from a gunshot wound, according to Sgt. Scott Trammell with the Heath Department of Public Safety

The child was reported missing to police on Tuesday night at 9:12 p.m. from a home in the 1700 block of White Road in Heath. According to Trammell, the boy's mother -- who last saw her son around 7:30 p.m. -- became alarmed and frantically made calls.

"After being unsuccessful in finding him, the search teams were put together and were luckily able to locate him," said Trammell.

The discovery came as volunteers, firefighters, and police officers searched an area spanning roughly 300-400 acres.

"At approximately 10:09 p.m., one of the search teams reported that the child was located in a wooded area. The child was found deceased due to a fatal injury -- that being of a gunshot wound."

Police are currently investigating the circumstances of his death, but are not investigating the death as a homicide, says Trammell.

"At this time, there's no reason to believe this is a homicide. There's no evidence to indicate that."

The boy's body has been sent to the Dallas County Medical Examiner; results are pending.

Investigators are working to interview any persons that came in contact with the boy on Tuesday.

Authorities do not believe there is an existing threat to residents.
