PADRE ISLAND (CBSDFW) - Authorities have located a body near Padre Island National Seashore, 30 miles south of Bob Hall Pier, according to KHOU-TV.

Mansfield ISD confirms it is that of Carlos Perez.

Late last week, 16-year-old Carlos Perez, of Mansfield, disappeared while swimming in the area.

"Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to Carlos' family during this very difficult time. The Mansfield ISD community is still providing comfort and assistance to the family and to our students."

The school district also says that counselors are available on campuses today and for the rest of the week to provide support for students and staff.

The Coast Guard had called off its search this weekend after searching more than 128 square nautical miles. Volunteers with Texas Equusearch Mounted Search and Recovery took on the case starting its search at daybreak Monday.

Perez was in Corpus Christi over the weekend with classmates for a SkillsUSA statewide competition. Friends said that Perez played soccer and started working at Olive Garden as soon as he turned 16 years old.

A Go Fund Me page has been created to assist the Perez' family.
