Many people enjoy watching a good game of football, baseball or basketball, but aren't really interested in playing the sport. Yet doctors and health professionals tell us all the time how important it is to exercise. Thankfully, numerous opportunities exist to get the blood flowing and the heart pumping.

Located in the fast-growing suburb of Allen, The Edge at Allen Station Skate Park is the largest outdoor skate park in the state of Texas. The facility features ledges, bowls, slopes, ramps and street fixtures. Safety equipment, including knee/elbow pads and helmets, is strongly recommended. Hours: 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.

Located adjacent to Lake Grapevine, just north of DFW Airport.  Spend your day running and shooting in fun paintball fields, including The Wall, Phantom Hill, Plane Crash and Ghost Town. No outside paint allowed. Rates: $34.99 for 300 paintballs; $39.99 for 500 paintballs. Grenades are available for $5.99. Hours: Saturday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cedar Hill State Park offers a variety of alternative sport and fitness activities, including boating, hiking trails, camping, fishing and mountain biking. Entrance fee: $5 per person per day, 13 and over (under 12 admitted free). Hours: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
