Arlington Elementary Principal Arrested, Charged With Child Sex Crimes

Stephen Paulsen

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - An Arlington elementary school principal has resigned his position after he was arrested and accused of trying to seduce a teenage boy in Florida.

Police say Stephen Paulsen, former principal of Morton Elementary, thought he was going to meet a teen for sex, when he was taken into custody.

Paulsen is now facing several charges involving soliciting a child online for sex, including using a computer to seduce, solicit and lure a child, travel to meet after use of a computer to lure a child and child cruelty.

Paulsen, 54, was in Florida to visit his parents when he began chatting online with a cop who was posing as a young teenage boy. The principal allegedly used the screen name "Tony Texas" and struck up a conversation with the boy. Florida authorities say Paulsen also sent nude photos of men to the undercover cop disguised as the young boy.

According to police records, he wrote "So… I have to ask are you out of hs? It's just you state your young."

The detective says he told Paulsen he was younger than 16.

"Wish you were 17," Paulsen allegedly replied.  "Love to teach you ... Excellent teacher/mentor."

A sexually graphic conversation lasted several days before police say Paulsen invited himself to the boy's home, while he believed the boy's parents were away.

A detective wrote "He stated that he was nervous because I was under 17," and even called the boy "jail bait."

Police say Paulsen then suggested a place for the young boy to meet him. When he arrived, police arrested him.

Paulsen appeared in court Wednesday morning in Palm Beach County Florida and is scheduled to appear again on Friday.

The Arlington Independent School District says it has accepted Paulsen's resignation, effective immediately and is cooperating with law enforcement officials. AISD has also reported Paulsen's arrest to the Texas State Board for Educator Certification.

According to AISD, Paulsen has been with the district for eight years, serving as principal for the past two with Morton Elementary. The previous six years he served as principal at Blanton Elementary.
