Affidavit: Mother Of Child Who Died in Hot Car 'Certain' She Dropped Daughter Off At Daycare
PLEASANT GROVE (CBSDFW.COM) - Dallas County officials on Wednesday released the arrest warrant for a mother who's one-year-old daughter died after being found unresponsive in a hot car on May 17. Vibha Marks was charged with child abandonment.
When officials first made contact with the mother, she appeared unaware anything was wrong with her child. The warrant describes the initial contact. "Is my husband ok? I'm a good person, did I do wrong, did something happen to my baby at daycare?"
According to the affidavit Marks told detectives she was 'certain' that she dropped her daughter, Victoria off at daycare before heading to work at Frank Guzick Elementary School in Pleasant Grove.
Police say the child was left in the car from the time Marks arrived at the school at 7:45am until about 1:26pm that afternoon. A witness who discovered the child immediately called 911 and performed CPR on the victim after breaking a window on the vehicle. The child, Victoria Marks was taken to Baylor Hospital by Dallas Fire and Rescue and pronounced dead by a staff physician.
The mother was released from jail Saturday on a $50,000 bond.
Frank Guzick Elementary School is located in the 5000 block of Berridge Lane in Pleasant Grove and is part of the Dallas Independent School District. The 42-year-old mother of the deceased child started working at the school shortly after spring break. The incident happened in the faculty parking lot, thus students didn't see what happened. Some students did however see police on the scene.
The DISD has placed her on administrative leave.
