Habitat For Humanity House Goes Up In Sundance Square

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Despite the rain and cold, an army of volunteers were hard at work Tuesday in Fort Worth. They were helping on Trinity Habitat for Humanity's latest home project in Sundance Square.

In the middle of the construction was the woman who the volunteers were helping. Euless resident Mary Myers said, "They're building my house!"

Myers' home right now is an apartment. However, in a matter of days she's going to be living in her new home with her four granddaughters.

Myer's said, "It means a start for them and a start for me. A place where we can feel safe and happy."

Habitat workers and volunteers from XTO Energy will work 12 hours a day through Saturday to build the family's house.

"Habitat is about community, about family and about home and Mary's going to be able to have that experience with her and her girls forever and that's a great opportunity that she has."  Lydia Traina with Trinity Habitat for Humanity said.

After the final nail is hammered the house will be moved out of downtown and to the Meadowbrook area of Fort Worth.

Mary already has two big plans for the home and her granddaughters. The first will happen later this year. "It'll be our first Christmas get-together at this new house and that's exciting, "

The second will be a few years down the road. When the girls are older they'll have a place to come to and bring their family to.
