911 Dispatchers Relocating After Hail Pounds Municipal Building

COLLIN COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - Residents and city leaders in Wylie are busy assessing the damage left behind after hail pummeled the community yesterday evening.
In addition to businesses and residents trying to clean up and recover, the storm left city officials trying to figure out where to set up 911 dispatchers after the Wylie Public Safety Building was damaged.
Normally on a Tuesday afternoon there would be police officers and fire department administrators moving about the building on Highway 78, but not today. Municipal workers could be seen carrying out soggy boxes, piles of tiles and a mountain of insulation. Most of the debris was from the ceiling of the building.
The hail punched holes in the roof, allowing water to pour in. The home of city police, fire, municipal court and 911 dispatch center was covered in rubble.
As hundreds of homes, businesses and other municipal buildings were being pounded by the storm in Wylie, city workers managed to handle all the emergency calls from a backup police and fire dispatch center. While that was okay for the short-term, the city will have to find a new home for its 911 center.
Wylie Fire Rescue Chief Brent Parker said, "We have a backup 911 center that we can use and we did that long and we did that last night. But we just need something a little more permanent because we feel like this is probably going to be a long-term, to kind of, I guess restore this building."
Officials didn't indicate what locations they were considering for the temporary public safety building.
