2 Suspects Arrested After High-Speed Police Chase

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A high-speed police chase, that zigzagged through three North Texas cities and into downtown Dallas, has ended with two suspects being taken into custody.
The incident started around 8:15 a.m. in Garland when police attempting to make a traffic stop received information that the license plate they'd called in was stolen.
It was then that officers attempted a to get the driver to pull over at Garland Road and Northwest Highway. "From what I'm understanding the vehicle did stop," explained Garland police Lieutenant Pedro Barineau. "Our officers initiated a felony stop, where they exit the vehicle with guns drawn. Because of the stolen license plate there was the possibility that the vehicle could be stolen as well."
The driver of the vehicle, 32 year old Vanessa Hummel of Carrollton, was arrested and has been charged with Evading Arrest and Theft of Motor Vehicle. One of the passengers, 26-year-old Fernando Aguilar of Garland, was also arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana. A third person in the car was released without being charged.
Garland investigators found numerous documents and credit cards inside the Toyota that did not belong to the occupants.
The driver took off and the chase, reaching speeds of over 100 mph, weaved through parts of Mesquite, Dallas County and into downtown Dallas. When asked why stop sticks weren't used to try and stop the driver Lt. Barineau said, "With speeds as high as they are it's sometimes difficult to get a police cruiser out in front of the chase."
After some 45 minutes of bobbing and weaving on Interstate-20, I-45, and downtown Dallas side streets, the female driver of the 4-door Toyota pulled to the curb and stopped on Live Oak. Almost immediately, the back door of the car opened and a man got out with his hands up. A man in the passenger seat was removed from the car shortly after.
The female of the driver ha to be forcibly removed from behind the wheel and from the view from Chopper 11 resisted officers as she was put on the ground.
Police let the man who exited the back seat go, after speaking with him. As of 10:00 a.m. both the driver and passenger were still in police custody. No officers, suspects or bystanders were injured during the chase.
Officers with the Garland Police Department lead the chase, but had assistance from the Dallas Police Department, the Dallas County Sheriff's Department and the DPD Air One helicopter.
